Annual Sustainability Performance and Action Management
FJUH is committed to fostering a medical environment that combines holistic care with excellence in quality. Guided by a patient-centered philosophy, the hospital continuously promotes clinical quality enhancement, interdisciplinary integrated care, and cyclical improvement mechanisms to ensure that healthcare services remain safe, effective, and compassionate.
Driven by smart innovation, the hospital actively adopts digital technologies and novel medical devices, develops personalized precision medicine, establishes intelligent clinical decision-support systems, and implements data-driven quality management. In response to the challenges of today's healthcare environment, FJUH strengthens its resilient healthcare system to enhance adaptability and continuity of services. At the same time, the hospital advances community health promotion and care for disadvantaged populations, embodying the Catholic values of "reverence for God and love for humanity, treating patients as family." Through these practical actions, the hospital embodies its humanistic spirit as a Catholic institution, striving for health, well-being, and a sustainable future.

Goals for Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety
The hospital regularly develops its annual Patient Safety Implementation Plan in alignment with the safety goals issued by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The plan covers key areas such as fostering teamwork and effective communication among healthcare professionals, cultivating a patient safety culture, implementing patient safety incident management, enhancing surgical safety, preventing patient falls, improving medication safety, strengthening infection control, increasing device and line safety, encouraging patient and family engagement in safety practices, and safeguarding maternal and neonatal safety. Once reviewed and approved through internal deliberation procedures, the plan is submitted to the committee for ratification. Afterward, relevant departments execute their assigned responsibilities to ensure the concrete implementation and continuous improvement of patient safety strategies.
In 2024, FJUH designed 134 monitoring indicators across nine safety goals, achieving a 98.5% compliance rate. Patient safety is one of the hospital's core management priorities. Each indicator is accompanied by oversight and review mechanisms, with regular cross-departmental meetings convened to assess outcomes and develop improvement measures. These efforts strengthen the culture of medical safety and enhance overall quality of care.

"Patient-Centered Care" Recognized with Multiple Healthcare Quality Awards
In 2024, Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital (FJUH) achieved remarkable success once again on its journey to advance healthcare quality. Seven quality improvement project teams within the hospital actively participated in national healthcare quality improvement competitions, including the Taiwan Healthcare Quality Management Competition organized by the Taiwan College of Healthcare Executives, the National Healthcare Quality Award hosted by the Joint Commission of Taiwan, and the 2024 Quality Improvement Project Competition organized by the Taiwan Healthcare Quality Association. The hospital earned multiple awards across these platforms.
These competitions serve not only as key national stages for healthcare institutions across Taiwan to showcase their quality improvement achievements but also as symbols of the highest honor in healthcare quality innovation. FJUH's teams distinguished themselves from numerous competitors, winning several prestigious awards that demonstrate the hospital staff's unwavering commitment to care quality and their strong professional capabilities. Each project team was grounded in clinical practice and employed data analysis, process optimization, and innovative strategies to effectively address core issues such as patient safety, workflow efficiency, and quality of care.
Looking ahead, FJUH will continue to uphold the value of patient-centered care, using quality improvement mechanisms to optimize medical service processes further. The hospital will also encourage more staff to engage in innovation and improvement initiatives, striving toward becoming a model institution in holistic care and high-quality healthcare delivery.

Patient Safety Week
Every year between September and October, Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital (FJUH) organizes Patient Safety Week. By creatively utilizing digital materials provided by the Joint Commission of Taiwan, the hospital promotes patient safety awareness both within its own walls and throughout the broader community.
In 2024, the campaign's themes were "Maternal Safety: A Shared Responsibility" and "Safe Diagnosis: Safeguarding Health." During the activities, the hospital educated patients, families, and community residents on key precautions for high-risk pregnancies. In conjunction with community healthcare events, FJUH conducted outreach on October 1, 2024, to further disseminate these messages.
The initiative encouraged all members of the public to communicate with the hospital whenever they encounter questions regarding medical treatment or patient safety, thereby fostering strong patient–provider relationships and safeguarding patient safety together.

Patient Autonomy Implementation Pathway

"Gradual Palliative Care and a Dignified End of Life: Using the ‘Life-Saving Device’ with Compassion"
The Critical Care Medicine team cared for a 30-year-old female patient with cerebral palsy who had been bedridden long-term. As her condition deteriorated, the team adopted High-Flow Heated and Humidified Nasal Cannula (HFNC) therapy to provide non-invasive respiratory support, alleviating the distress of dyspnea.
After thorough communication between the medical team and the family, both the patient and her family chose to withdraw life-sustaining treatment. This decision not only allowed the family to say a proper farewell but also allowed the patient to complete her final journey in comfort and peace under palliative care.
Upholding the 理念 of gradual palliative care, FJUH's Department of Critical Care Medicine intervenes with palliative consultations during the terminal phase of life. This approach helps patients and their families reorganize life priorities within a limited time, ensuring that the final chapter of life can be closed with dignity, serenity, and compassion.

Shared Decision-Making (SDM)
FJUH is committed to advancing patient-centered healthcare by actively implementing the concept of Shared Decision-Making (SDM) to strengthen communication and trust between patients and healthcare professionals. SDM emphasizes the collaborative process in which both clinicians and patients participate in treatment choices: physicians provide evidence-based medical information, while patients express their personal preferences and values. Through this two-way communication, treatment decisions are reached that best align with the patient's needs and wishes.
The hospital has also introduced Patient Decision Aids (PDAs) with visual and interactive designs to help patients better understand their conditions and treatment options, thereby improving participation and decision-making quality. This approach embodies the goals of respect, informed choice, and autonomy in medical care, highlighting the hospital's commitment to patient rights and human-centered care. At present, eight clinical departments have integrated SDM into their clinical workflows.
Integrated Care and Specialized Medical Services
Chen-Yung Women's Health Center
The Chen-Yung Women's Health Center is dedicated to safeguarding women's health across every stage of life. With a foundation in medical expertise and humanistic care, the center supports women throughout their lives, from birth and growth, through pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and into aging. It provides comprehensive care for gynecological and breast diseases while preserving women's quality of life and dignity in physical, psychological, and spiritual dimensions.
Since 2019, FJUH, together with the Chen-Yung & Fu Jen Breast Cancer Foundation, has jointly initiated the patient support group "Truth, Goodness, Beauty, and Holiness Fellowship." This fellowship welcomes cancer survivors, their families, and spouses to participate. Guided by the principles of "Truth, Goodness, Beauty, and Holiness," the group helps cancer survivors move toward a positive life. Since its establishment, it has organized 19 medical seminars, 13 stress-relief workshops, and 13 outdoor activities. The initiative not only provides care for cancer patients but also addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of caregivers and family members.

Fu Jen Sports Medicine Center
Since the hospital's founding, the Orthopedics Department of FJUH has built upon its medical experience from the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade and integrated resources from Fu Jen Catholic University's Departments of Physical Education, Nutritional Science, and Clinical Psychology. In 2019, the Fu Jen Sports Medicine Center was established as a signature development under the Orthopedics Department.
The center was founded with the vision of aligning Taiwan's sports medicine with international standards, while embodying the Catholic principle of reverence for God and love for humanity, and promoting the spirit of sportsmanship. Anchored in orthopedics, the center provides precise and timely diagnoses, integrates sports physiotherapy, advanced athletic training, and injury prevention, as well as nutrition and psychological counseling. Complemented by state-of-the-art training and therapeutic equipment, the center delivers holistic, comprehensive care to the public.

Cardiac Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Recovery Center
The Cardiac Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Recovery Center was established in November 2024, bringing together specialists from rehabilitation, critical care, thoracic medicine, and cardiology. The center is dedicated to advancing preventive medicine, serving both patients requiring cardiac rehabilitation and high-risk groups among the elderly.
The center has introduced an AI-powered intelligent exercise training system, which integrates real-time electrocardiography with personalized exercise prescriptions. This innovation has created a safe, engaging, and precise model for cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
Supported by a multidisciplinary team, patients are accompanied throughout their recovery journey, receiving assistance in strengthening cardiopulmonary function and physical fitness. This approach ensures that rehabilitation is not only more effective but also less isolating for patients.

St. Luke's Health Management Center
In addition to creating a comfortable environment for health examinations, Precision, Preventive, and Predictive care are the three defining features of the St. Luke's Health Management Center. The hospital continually improves service quality through satisfaction surveys, as well as by publishing health education articles and videos on social media platforms, thereby maintaining strong client engagement.
As of now, the hospital has released 23 health education posts on its official Facebook page and 73 health-related videos on its YouTube channel. The topics cover introductions to common diseases, nutrition education, and frequently asked questions on medication use. The channel has accumulated 4,520 subscribers.
The St. Luke's Health Management Center remains committed to providing excellent customer service and has set a mid-term goal of participating in the Excellence in Customer Service Award by 2026.
Child Protection and Domestic/Sexual Violence Prevention Center
FJUH places strong emphasis on children's health and is committed to child-friendly services. Pediatric care at the hospital has been developed in three phases:
- Phase I: Improvements began with the establishment of a child-friendly emergency department, providing 24-hour pediatrician coverage and a designated child-friendly emergency space.
- Phase II: In 2020, the Child Protection and Domestic/Sexual Violence Prevention Center was officially established. Recognizing the lengthy judicial investigation process for child abuse cases, the center collaborated with social welfare, police, health, and judicial agencies to design an early judicial intervention protocol. Standards were developed for photographing forensic evidence of child abuse injuries in emergency departments, with medical staff assistance ensuring sufficient evidentiary quality. This significantly improved the reliability of injury documentation. For traumatized children and their parents, trauma-informed recovery services were provided, integrating psychiatric care, psychology, and social work to deliver assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and follow-up services.
- Phase III: Beginning in 2023, the "Little Satellite Holistic Child Protection Project" received a Rotary International Global Grant under the category of Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention. It became the first approved project of its kind in Taiwan, connecting 46 community "Little Satellite" units and engaging 518 children and adolescents. The project uses questionnaires for vulnerable families to establish a community-based, holistic health database for children. Based on the assessments, needs are categorized and matched with relevant measures and support agencies, enabling early identification and intervention for at-risk children.
To further reduce the occurrence of child abuse, the center also provides educational training programs to strengthen caregivers’ knowledge and sensitivity in child protection.
